2016-04-03T11:53:52  <smiley1983> I spent quite a bit of time battling the type system when I tried to do slightly more complex things - which is not unexpected (I fought with ocaml's type system a bit when first learning it) but it means it still takes real effort for me to do things in Rust, where doing the same thing in ocaml is much faster and easier.

2016-04-03T12:29:24  <smiley1983> I like the idea of a safe, fast language, but from current benchmarks, C is faster, and if some speed can be sacrificed then there are languages which are safe and almost as fast, and possibly a bit easier to use. Still, it's going to be interesting to see how Rust develops, because it's obviously got a strong community behind it.
